Light it Up Blue

I have children and a nephew in the Autism Spectrum. Today I wanted to let you know that next week on Monday April 2nd Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization, is hosting Light it Up Blue .

It is a global initiative to raise awareness about the growing public health concern of autism. On that day, iconic landmarks around the world will be lit in blue light. Did you know that 1 in 70 boys are diagnosed with Autism nowadays.

Drape something in blue or wear blue in the support of Autism that day!

I ♥ the Hunger Games Trilogy

Have you noticed the Hunger Games CRAZE YET? Did you read the trilogy?

"CRAZES" usually bypass me and I am late on this one too but my daughter bought the Hunger Games to read on the beach in Mexico and when she got home she wouldn't put it down.

I borrowed it and I got the Hunger Games Fever!

Everyone I talk to who's read it went out and bought the second and third book within days and finished them all.

I read at least a book a week but with the Hunger Games I read all three in the week. So if you haven't read them yet pick them up (no point in waiting to buy the second and third book) just buy all three because you will race through them or save them for your trip on the beach and enjoy a total escape.

Wailin' Jennys

I've mentioned before that I subscribe to the podcast: "Canada Live" from CBC Radio among a few others (in case you're interested: Vinyl Cafe, Tapestry and The Current)

All of these podcasts are free and as the host for "Canada Live" Andrew Craig said: "Canada Live" is your "Goodie Bag of Canadian Music".

I have many favorites that I share with you once a week on Fridays and this Spring I have been going back to listen to the Wailin' Jennys Canada Live podcast from October 8th 2010 and listening to these two songs alot on my walk to work.

"Begin"

Hey, maybe the time
just wasn't right to hang on
When are you gonna learn
Sometimes things turn instead of turn out

Hey, when are you gonna stand
Stop looking over your shoulder
Me, with a head full of words
And not one useful expression
Hey, let go

We, with holes in our hearts
Were whole at the start
Our story began
We film ourselves 'til the end
Try to suspend our lives in the dark

Hey, when are you gonna stand
Stop looking over your shoulder
See, there's a sun in the sky
And a moon that will take us til morning
When are you gonna stand
Stop and begin this moment
Hey, let go
Let go (will we be the ones to understand?)...

You wonder why you wonder when,
You wonder how now and then,
How you became who you've become
You are here, And yet you dream of being there,
Of being where you think the good life has begun

Every darkened hallway, Every fallen dream,
Every battle lost and Every shadow in between
Will bring you to your knees and Closer to the reason

And there's no making cases, For getting out or trading places
And there's no turning back, No you are here
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsty.com/the-wailin-jennys-you-are-here-lyrics.html ]
Who can say who made the choice,
In the matter of your birth
Who brought about that fateful day,
Well you are here and born with fire and desire
You're the only one can stand in your own way

And every broken arrow, Every hardened smile
Every foolish gamble and Every lonely mile
Will bring you to your knees and Closer to the reason

And there's no making cases For getting out or trading places
And there's no turning back No you are here

And every sign of love, Every seed that's growing
Every sweet surrender To that silent knowing
Will bring you to your knees and Closer to the reason

And there's no making cases For getting out or trading places
And there's no turning back No you are here...

Hope you Enjoy! Have a good weekend!

I ♥ this Henry Miller quote.

Every day we slaughter our finest impulses. That is why we get a heart-ache when we read those lines written by the hand of a master and recognize them as our own, as the tender shoots which we stifled because we lacked the faith to believe in our own powers, our own criterion of truth and beauty. Every man, when he gets quiet, when he becomes desperately honest with himself, is capable of uttering profound truths. We all derive from the same source. There is no mystery about the origin of things. We are all part of creation, all kings, all poets, all musicians; we have only to open up, to discover what is already there.

Henry Miller (1891 - 1980)

Happy International Women's day!

Are you ready to lose your mind?

Once again I came upon this gorgeous Swedish interior in the fabulous blog House of Turquoise!

I used to do a weekly inspiration post for House of Turquoise but I just had too much of my own posts to do so couldn't continue....but as usual I have nothing but positive things to say about this blog. If you don't already have it in your feed you must it is so worth it!

Erin found this post at the blog Avolli.

Tricia the blogger at Avolli found these images of a Stockholm apartment where the designer with a love for India combined her passions to create a unique take on Swedish design.

This makes me want to scream and shout and run around I love it so much!

STOP KONY!

Everybody knows that I am crazy about interior design and art and as I state in my profile: " I think that you can make a difference and inspire people by simply sharing your enthusiasm. I am passionate about design, good wholesome food, nature, children, arts and crafts, and the underdog. This is my blog about all of these things."

I made a promise to myself when I started this blog that it would be a positive inspiring place and that it would not be witty based on sarcasm and negativity. That's been easy enough to do but I haven't been able to incorporate "THE UNDERDOG" much into my little platform on the web.

It just didn't seem to fit in to do a serious POST about bullying, war and children, abuses against women and other human rights abuses right beside "I'm Obsessed" (my addiction to Pinterest) but all of these things that upset me and that I am extremely passionate about stopping and/or changing are still REALLY IMPORTANT TO ME. This video moved me so much that I don't care if it doesn't fit it has to be shared.

TODAY on Art Day (which just proves the importance of Art to me once again) is the DAY  that I add a short movie/documentary on a subject that really really moves me and I want to do something about it even if it just sharing this video.

It is a very difficult video to watch but take the time and in the end it will give you hope. I know the cynics will have something to say about this but I don't want to hear it. I am not naive. I was compelled by this video and if we can make a change with KONY what else could it snowball into. At least it is within my power to share this video and inspire people. In my heart these children are my children too. Let's make KONY WORLD NEWS it is that simple. Start today! Talk about it to your colleagues and friends share it whatever your platform. LET'S GO!

There are three things you can do right now:

1- Blog about it

2- Tweet it

3- Share it on Facebook

I've done all of these things!

Then you can go to the link here and sign the pledge, donate and get the kit.

Remember Apartheid we thought there was nothing we could do and many people died but not in vain just think of Stephen Biko.

I am OBSESSED!!!

YerCinnamonGirl PINS
I have an addiction! Writing this blog is a real pleasure for me getting to know other bloggers and all the inspiration I have found... it just makes the daily grind of life more bearable. But there is something threatening my writing this blog if I don't get it under control...I am so unbelievable extremely obsessed with pinterest it is DANGEROUS!

If you haven't joined yet trust me you'll be getting some invites soon it is the fastest growing social network right now. Basically all it is a virtual bulletin board where you can pin links that inspire/interest you according to themes for your boards and you can share them with others and follow other people's interesting boards. FOR my professional organizer self this is a DREAM COME TRUE!

I read blogs and find all sorts of inspiring things and have bookmarks and favorites at every computer I have access to but NOW all I need to do is pin it on pinterest and voilà! INSTANT INSPIRATION BOARD but the danger is I don't want to do anything but look at pins and find more interesting pins to pin. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I invite you to cautiously check my Boards on Pinterest and possibly ask me for an invite if you wish but use with caution. Just click on the link below the Pic from my Bulletin Board: "Fairy Tale Spaces"

Soundtrack of my Life...India Arie

On Fridays I always give you the gift of music but today rather than tell you about what playlist I discovered recently or what song or band I am crushing on I pulled out a song that has stood the test of time.

You know everybody has songs that define moments in their life and that fade and never stand the test of time but they're still fun when you hear them.

In this case though when I refer to the soundtrack of my life this means a song that I have loved at a moment in time but later on I actually crave the song again because it resonated with me so profoundly that is just like a boon for me.

This is one of them: India Arie "Get it Together"

I first really started loving India Arie when my daughter asked for the album "Acoustic Soul" when she was nine. I was so thrilled that she liked something other than the "Spice Girls" or "Britney Spears" that I ran out and got the album that same week.

In 2002 I took my daughter to the "Théatre St.Denis" for India Arie's "Voyage to India tour"  I will never forget that night and that album has been on our "agreed on" playlist ever since. Here are a few of my other favorites from that same album that is part of the soundtrack of our lives...

Talk to her

The Truth

There ain't no substitute for the truth
either it is or isn't
you see the truth it, needs no proof
either it is or it isnt
Now you know the truth by the way it feels

Complicated Melody
To me this song is always dedicated to my son.

Have a Good Weekend!

Bed of Flowers

I wrote to Floriene Bosch host of the bed and breakfast Bed of Flowers in the Netherlands to ask if I could use her pictures for my blog and rant and rave about how absolutely gorgeous her decor is in her quaint bed and breakfast. She very kindly said yes so you're lucky because you are in for a treat! Floriene Bosch is very passionate about interior decorating she takes leaps of faith and it all works to create her own distinctive style. Her combination of daring colors and flower designs cements everything together in a whimsical way I SIMPLY ADORE!

I love every single detail, every single color choice, the flowers, the flower paintings, the mix of rustic with modern fresh colors. Thank you Floriene for your inspiration and all pictures are credited to professional photographer John Dummer.
